On August 29, 2077 hurricane San Pedro hit Rio de Janeiro causing extreme flooding and the deaths of 3000 people. It was the first hurricane ever to hit Rio de Janeiro directly. The city experience extreme damage and did billions of dollars worth of damage. Heavily damaged the Christ Redeemer statue. Most of the people that died lived in the slums on the outskirts of the city that were extremely rough shape to begin with. This was the deadliest storm in Brazilian history and it was the first major hurricane of the region. The next two decades also saw many more storms hit Rio de Janeiro and the surrounding areas. This storm was the beginning of the chaotic storm seasons of the 2080s and the 2090s were so many people died.
