Overview and Government[]
The Parliamentary Republic of Canis Major, also known as Cania (Cahn-ya) or PRCM, is a Parliamentary-based democracy located in the constellation Canis Major when viewed from Earth, hence its name.
Wezen, also known as Delta Canis Majoris, is a F-type star (Slightly larger than our sun) that marks the base of the tail in the constellation Canis Major. It is orbited by 4 planets, none of which have moons:
- Harpocrates (δCMa-B)
- Bellerophon (δCMa-C)
- Daedalus (δCMa-D)
- Eos (δCMa-E)
Daedalus lies as the capital of Cania, seating all 35 ministers and Prime Minister David Malthus. The government is organized traditionally, using an Opposing Benches layout, similar to the United Kingdom Parliament. The Cania Parliament meets every other day, with week long recesses granted bimonthly, in addition to vacation hours.
The Prime Minister has less power than traditionally included, instead being a mode to mediate the powers of the parliament. While still having veto power, this can be overturned by a 2/3rds majority.
While there are legally three branches to the Government, the Parliament also acts as the Judicial Branch and Supreme Court.
Economy[]
The nation follows a semi-free market, or Capitalist, design. While measures are taken to ensure freedom on the market, many have argued that the Anti-Monopoly system is too restrictive, as it is impossible for a company to control more than 30% of the market on a particular commodity. Supermarkets are regulated differently, through a more complicated system.
Cania does not trade as much with other nations and is much more separated from the interstellar economy, mainly due to the intense tariffs imposed on imports. While Cania does have a large market for nonmetals like Nitrogen, Carbon, and Oxygen, the export market is not dominant in any field.
The Canian Ruble is worth about 42% of the US Dollar, primarily due to the limited trade within and exiting the nation. However, this number is still preferable to some of the less fortunate civilizations.
Top 3 Most Common Occupations in Cania[]
- Gas Harvester (14%)
- Chemical Engineer (4%)
- Pilot (1%)

History[]
Pre-independence (2131-2279)[]
When the area that would later become the Parliamentary Republic of Canis Major was colonized in the late 23rd Century, the area was primarily used for Nonmetal Harvesting. With the discovered of the Island of Stability with the Periodic Table, and the "heavy gasses", the population around the region exploded. Due to the vastly different conditions from the home nation of the Northern Space Command, the population lobbied for independence to better control themselves and their individual needs and desires.
As the concept of Interstellar Independence was fairly new at the time, the Northern Space Command wished to be viewed as benevolent to its people. As per this, as the Heavy Gas Race died down, they were granted their independence.
Orion Conquest (2337-2344)[]
During the Orion Conquest Period, the five major nations of Earth descended into conflict, fighting over the Cygnus Area. Via proxy, the Orion Area also came under conflict, which quickly turned into the main theater of the war. Due to large swaths of the Orion Area falling under Canian control, the early nation was quickly brought into the conflict. The Parliamentary Republic of Canis Major sided with their parent nation of the Northern Space Command, and thus the Alliance of Outer States.

The first major battle of the Orion Conquest was the Battle of Argo Navis, taking place in a star system consisting of one planet, a "Hot Jupiter" close to its star. The battle occurred at the L3 Point of the Argonaut Belt.

At the beginning of the battle, the Sagittarius Confederation used its massive Battleship advantage to attempt to force a hole open in the center of the Outer States's formation, unsuccessfully. The Alliance of Outer States then counterattacked by attacking the Sagittarius Confederation's center, but was careless in their rush to do so before more reinforcements arrived, and allowed the Sagittarius Confederation to wrap around their flanks and attack them from behind. With another attack on the center, the Alliance of Outer States's formation fell apart and a retreat was ordered, a further 6 ships falling during the retreat.
In total, the Sagittarius Confederation lost 3 Battleships, 3 Destroyers, and 2 Frigates while the Alliance of Outer States lost 3 Battleships, 6 Destroyers, and 4 Frigates. Of Cania, 2 Destroyers and 1 Frigate belonged to their military.
Battle of Raiton Gamma (2340)[]
The other major battle involving the Parliamentary Republic of Canis Major, the Battle of Raiton Gamma, was a battle that occurred near the Outer Arm of the Milky Way. This battle ended much better for the Alliance of Outer States, and it can be argued to be one of the major turning points.
Alliance of Outer States | Sagittarius Confederation | Total | |
---|---|---|---|
Battleships | 4 | 6 | 10 |
Destroyers | 9 | 17 | 36 |
Frigates | 3 | 5 | 8 |

Major General Cassandra "Rosey" Parkins of Cania fought for the Alliance of Outer States during this Battle, and cleverly used her force's positioning to win the battle. The Raiton Gamma system consists of 5 Planets, the 4th having a moon.
- Hephaestus
- Hestia (Semi-Habitable)
- Gaea (Habitable)
- Athena (Habitable)
- Minerva
- Helen
The Battle of Raiton Gamma was primarily fought around the planet Gaea, with offshoots into Hestia. General Parkins lured the Sagittarius Confederation fleet in a close orbit with Gaea, and sent out a distraction ground-based force to Hestia, while hidden ground-based imagery on Gaea captured the positions of the Sagittarius Confederation's forces. This allowed her to preform a tactic coined "Ring-around-the-Rosey", named based off of an old children's nursery rhyme. This is also how General Parkins got her nickname.
By staying on the opposite side of the planet from her enemy, and preforming hit-and-run tactics, she forced the enemy to split their forces to try and go both sides of the way around the planet. Using this divide-and-conquer tactic, General Parkins successfully defeated the Sagittarius Confederation force with minimal casualties.
Treaty of Silvervile (2344)[]
Cania gained territory from the 180 degree line to the 225 degree line, and up to the Paramilitarris Perimeter, expanding their territory to encompass a swath of the Outer Arm.
Rosette War (2345)[]
The Rosette War was a conflict that primarily encompassed the Rosette Nebula, fought between the Parliamentary Republic of Canis Major and the Independent State of Norma, later known as the Cepheus Protectorate. It started as a minor border dispute, then worsened after Norma took a different side during the Orion War, and the Rosette War followed soon after.

Treaty of Iris[]
Norma was forced to give every star system up to Messier 3, and was to submit to a puppet government as the Cepheus Protectorate.
Cepheus Conflict (2348-Unknown)[]
After the signing of the Treaty of Iris, many citizens of the Cepheus Protectorate felt the conditions were too harsh, and thus began a period on unrest and Guerllia Warfare that only gradualy died down over time, an exact date is impossible to pin down.
