The Presidency of Bernard "Bernie" Sanders started on January 20th, 2009, 12:00pm EST and ended on January 20th, 2017 EST. He succeeded George Walker Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, making him the 44th President of the United States. A Democrat, Bernard Sanders was an short-term Independent U.S Senator from Vermont at the time of his 2008 U.S presidential election landslide victory over Republican Senator John Sidney McCain. His presidency is mostly viewed by historians as one of the best, up with Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower. He is also viewed as the most Liberal and Progressive President, signing in legislation like the Medicare for All Act of 2010, the College for All Act of 2011 and legalizing same-sex marriage and making it a constitutional right in 2015.
