2021: Spain is slowly becoming a liberal, democratic haven in Europe, and is becoming more tolerant towards Catalan and Basque separatists. These actions are supported by the incumbent king, Felipe VI Bourbon. However, not all of Spain is enjoying this transformation. The Catholic Church, the Spanish Army, the Conservatives and other factions do not like what they see, and soon they think they have obtained a pawn in the Spanish royal family... Leonor, the heir presumptive to the Spanish throne. As she grew up, Leonor became far more authoritarian and conservative, while fully embracing a radical branch of Catholicism. She keeps these beliefs hidden from her family, under the guise of supporting democracy and liberty... she also knows that while her father is 53 years old, he still has many years left, and the older Leonor gets, the smaller the window of time to 'save' Spain gets. On the day of the Congress, the king brings forth word of a conspiracy, and that a government wide investigation will be taking place to root them out and cleanse the Spanish government of corruption. Then, the mother of all bombs go off, flattening the local area of Madrid Valdebebas, killing all 616 members of the Cortes Generales, all 50 members of the Church in attendance, The entire Spanish High Command, King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and Princess Sophia and 2,400 civilians. The bombing sends shockwaves across the country, and a faking distraught Leonor returns from England, where she is crowned Queen of the nation, taking the name Mariana. Quickly, she turns on her Catalan and Basque allies, and sends in the loyal Spanish army. Between June and October, Spain massacres 500,000 Catalans, and 250,000 Basque, and word spreads to Europe and NATO over the genocide. Spain is expelled from NATO and the EU.

Though Morocco refuses to become a vassal of Spain. The Spanish invade and subjugate Morocco before incorporating it into Spain proper. Mauritania annexes Western Sahara to prevent its fall into Spanish hands.

2026: Spain annexes Andorra. The UN classifies Spain as a rogue nation. Beginning in November, Spain demands Portugal join it, they refuse, and so the Spanish blockade Portugal by land, sea and air. The UN struggles to respond.
