In the 2080s the Arctic region experienced severe climate change they completely eliminated summer snowfall and ice. Permafrost melted which caused heavy distraction in Arctic towns from Canada to Siberia. The warming climate caused all the glaciers in Iceland to melt causing widespread flooding. Iceland was very concerned about their coastline being flooded and destroyed. As a result t,hey constructed a series of artificial islands to protect their coastline. Over the next 100 years a, series of 150 small islands were constructed around Iceland. These islands became extremely popular among tourists and became vibrant settlements by 2112. these islands were used for low i-come housing, renewable energy, food production a,nd bio farm factories. These islands also made Iceland the leading producer in algae-based biofuel which cause a revolution and energy and environmental regulation in the 21st century. Iceland also had extensive trade networks and partnerships with the Democratic Singaporean empire which dominated politics from the late 21st century to the early 24th century. By 2155 the artificial island chain surrounding Iceland became known as the Icelandic archipelago. The Icelandic archipelago became a massive empire beginning in 2150 when they took over occupied Denmark Norway and Scandinavia. They eventually acquired Siberia from the Russian government which was experiencing major economic issues in the 22nd century. In 2160 the Icelandic archipelago also acquired the former US state of Alaska. The Icelandic empire continue tso be dominant in the northern hemisphere log into the 24th century when the Empire eventually became part of the Asiatic empire.
