The Netherlands archipelago (New Venice)

In the 2050s the weather got worse and sea level rise intensified. Most cities and governments retrofitted and protected their cities such as Venice, most of the Mediterranean and New York City. However the government of the Netherlands could not afford flood protection because their economies collapse in 2054. By 2068, the entire country of the Netherlands was flooded and Amsterdam was entirely flooded. Most of the country was completely abandoned and refugees fled to Switzerland and the city of new Venice. By 2077 97% of the country of the Netherlands was submerged. Beginning in 2088 a series of artificial islands start to be constructed connected to the remaining submerged land. Eventually by 2100 158 islands were established and the country became known as the Netherlands Archipelago. The island of new Amsterdam was the most populated of this country. By the 23rd century the Netherlands archipelago United became known became known single megacities that was the largest city in Europe.
