Beginning in 1983 a massive civil war began the former country of the Soviet Union the war lasted 10 years and ended on May 1, 1993. After the Soviet Union supported the United Nations and the introduction of democracy while the other half promoted dictatorship and increasing government control. The war was also partially cause by the political instability as a result from increased tensions with the United States caused by the nuclear war of 1982. This Civil War also led to the complete collapse of the Soviet Union in 2007. Over the course of his tenure conflict 10 million people died in the cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow were devastated by war and mostly destroyed. In 1989 as a result of the war there is a massive nuclear explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant that led to the abandonment of Kiev Ukraine and the contamination of the of the Black Sea. After the Civil War and the collapse of the Soviet Union the remaining country was in chaos and divided into many factions that were constantly warring. Eventually these factions were reunited and nation known as the Republic of Russia which was founded in 2017 10 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. However the country still remained extremely poor radioactive and constantly faced food shortages. The Soviet Civil War is most devastating thing to happen the Soviet Union since World War II.
